From sign-up to filed

Here's how your return moves through the system.

01 Getting started

You fill in your details, employment, other income and upload your documents.

02 HMRC authorisation

We request authorisation to act on your behalf. HMRC posts you a code; you type it in.

03 Under review

You submit everything for review. Your accountant checks and accepts it.

04 In preparation

Your accountant categorises your bank statements, prepares expenses and runs the tax computation.

05 Awaiting approval

You see your tax summary, review the figures, and sign to approve.

06 Submitted

Your return is filed with HMRC. You get the reference number and a receipt.

Both sides work on the same return — no re-typing, no attachments, no spreadsheets.

Everything you need to do, in one checklist

The portal turns your tax return into a guided checklist. Every step shows whether it's complete, ready, waiting or locked — you always know what to do next.

STEP 01

Your Details

Name, date of birth, NI number, UTR, address, trade and banking details. Required fields are validated before you move on, every step saves on its own, and returning clients get everything prefilled from last year.

Personal details
National Insurance number Complete
Unique Taxpayer Reference Complete
Trade & banking details In progress
STEP 02

Employment & Other Income

Also employed? Add each employer with the PAYE reference and P60 figures. Plain yes/no questions cover everything else — capital gains, pensions, foreign income, UK property, partnership, allowances and reliefs. Only the sections you answer "Yes" expand, and everything flows straight into the tax computation.

Other income
UK property income Yes — 1 let
Pension income No
Capital gains No
Marriage Allowance Receiving
STEP 03

Documents

A checklist of exactly what your accountant needs, with drag-and-drop upload boxes for each. Uploads are encrypted at rest; preview or replace any document before submission.

Document checklist
Proof of identity Uploaded
Proof of address Uploaded
Bank statements — 12 months Required
CIS statements If applicable
STEP 04

Declaration, Signature & HMRC Code

Confirm your information is correct, then sign on a signature pad — finger on a phone, mouse on desktop. One click sends the authorisation request to HMRC; they post you a code (7–10 working days) and you type it into the portal. Status is always visible to both sides.

HMRC authorisation
Declaration signed 14 Mar
Authorisation requested Sent
Code letter from HMRC In the post
STEP 05

Tax Summary & Approval

Once your accountant has prepared the figures, see your full income and expenses breakdown, your bill or refund, and a plain-English "How your tax is calculated" explainer. Review, tick the authorisation statement, sign, and approve — a snapshot of exactly what you approved is frozen.

Tax summary · 2025–26
Total income £41,250
Allowable expenses £8,940
CIS already deducted £6,460
Refund due £1,284
STEP 06

Submission & Records

Your return is filed directly with HMRC. This step shows the reference number, the submission date, and a downloadable receipt PDF. Your return stays available forever.

FOR ACCOUNTANTS

One pipeline for every client. Nothing falls through the cracks.

Behind the portal sits a full staff workspace — the same data, seen from the practice's side. What the client types appears instantly; every figure you prepare flows back to their Tax Summary.

The client list

Every client in one filterable pipeline — name, reference, stage, payment status, branch. Clients awaiting review are flagged.

The 12-step preparation wizard

Twelve steps mirroring the client’s journey plus the accountant’s work: bank-statement categorisation, editable SA103 totals, a live tax computation that recalculates on every keystroke, and every figure mapped to its official HMRC box.

The admin panel

Practice-wide dashboards: clients by stage, revenue, fees, a complete audit trail, staff roles and branches, per-accountant statistics, and configurable deadline reminders.
